About me: My name is Sophie, I am from Wikwemikong, my ancestry on my fathers side are the Pheasant’s (Neganigwane) and my mothers, is the Lavallee’s (Lovely), all of Wikwemikong. I spent a number of years traveling to pow-wows across Canada and the United States as a Jingle Dress Dancer, also known as the healing dance. My experience of travel, urban living and the people that I meet, influence my creativity. I now reside with my sweet man and our two children on Manitoulin Island. Our individual paths lead us to meet in our community.

In 2004, I began making jewellery, wire figures, window charms, in addition to my creative sewing. I was recently reminded about a story that my grandpa shared with his children, about his mother, my great-grandmother, Sophie Ewiwe, who traveled to Little Current from Wikwemikong to sell her handmade baskets to the visitors. More than 70 years pass and I made that same journey.
I am thankful to all who encouraged me, supported my creativity, those that provided me with guidance and history, sharing their knowledge, it is something that I truly value. Chi-Miigwech!

About Mo’Lovely Jewellery: I am attached to working with shells, particularily Mother of Pearl, different types of shells have been used historically to adorn our traditional clothing, influencing my design. Quality materials are used to create the jewellery, each piece is hand made, using silver-plated wire, surgical steel ear hooks and a variety of crystal, glass, acrylic and metal beads.
